United Kingdom — Last month, the UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced that this year's theme for World Maritime Day is "Year of the Seafarer". IMO Secretary-General Efthimios E. Mitropoulos said that this designation would help to reassure those who work at the "sharp end" of the industry and allow the maritime community to pay tribute to seafarers for their unique contribution to society and in recognition of the vital role they play in the global economy.
